The separating gel used in BD Vacutainer SST II Advance tubes creates a barrier between the serum and the clot during centrifugation, protecting the material from cell contamination. To avoid significant distortion of potassium, phosphorus, and glucose test results, serum must be separated from cells within two hours of collection.
