Description

VACUTAINER K2EDTA 2ml Tubes

EDTA salts act as an anticoagulant for whole blood intended for hematology testing (EDTA is very effective at preserving blood cellular components). EDTA prevents clotting by forming complexes with metal ions such as calcium, and as a result, inhibits the coagulation cascade. The anticoagulant effect of EDTA is irreversible. The EDTA concentration in BD Vacutainer® tubes is 1.8 mg per mL of whole blood when a sufficient sample volume is collected. Mixing the tube with EDTA (inverting the tube 8-10 times) immediately after sampling has a huge impact on preventing the formation of microclots.
