Description
NRC Thermal Insulation Emergency Blanket
The thermal blanket (Life Foil) is made of thin, double-sided metallized polyester foil.
The foil is coated silver on one side and gold on the other.
Covering the injured person with the silver side facing outward promotes body cooling and protects against overheating (the silver side reflects light), while covering the injured person with the gold side facing outward retains heat, warms the patient, and protects against hypothermia (the gold side absorbs heat).
The emergency blanket should be included in first aid kits and used in rescue situations requiring prevention of hypothermia or overheating. Thanks to the small dimensions of the folded foil, it easily fits into most standard first aid kits.
