The gel in BD Vacutainer SST II Advance tubes separates the serum from the blood clot during centrifugation, preventing contamination of the serum with separated cellular elements. Serum for potassium, phosphorus, and glucose levels must be separated from the cells within several hours – otherwise, the results will be significantly inaccurate.
