Igła Vacuteiner to zamknięty, sterylny system do pobierania krwi żylnej. Mechanizm Safety Lok zabezpiecza przed przypadkowym zakłuciem – po pobraniu krwi i wyjęciu igły osłonka (zintegrowana z motylkiem) nasuwa się na ostrze, osłaniając je całkowicie. Kliknięcie sygnalizuje, że igła została zabezpieczona prawidłowo. Mechanizm można aktywować przy użyciu tylko jednej ręki. 17,8 cm dren igły wyposażony został w adapter umożliwiający połączenie igły Vacutainer z probówkami z fabrycznie ustanowionym podciśnieniem.
